Our Journey to Net Zero
Make Venues is part of the wider Make UK group. The full organisation has pledged to the SME Climate Hub to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve Net Zero by 2050.
With help from Inspired Energy, we have recently completed the collation of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions data for both 2022 and 2023. A company-wide task force was set up to view strategy and implementation of Carbon reduction initiatives.
Our Sustainability Initiatives
We are always looking at where we can reduce our environmental impact. Here are just some examples on our ever-evolving list of sustainability initiatives we have in place.
Energy Saving
We use a combination of LED lighting, ‘switch off’ signs & automatic light sensors to save on electricity.
We always seek the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly solutions when upgrading equipment.
We have a ‘lights off’ and ‘engines off’ in car parks policy.
At Woodland Grange (our largest venue), we have a Voltage Optimisation System in place. This aims to systematically control and reduce the voltages supplied to electrical equipment.
Carbon Footprint
We have reduced the number of deliveries to our venues.
We’ve introduced staff car sharing schemes.
We have Introduced electric vehicle parking points.
Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice scheme in place to encourage staff move to electric vehicles.
We have a number of responsible planting initiatives to attract wildlife to our venues, including bird baths and a bug hotel!
Food and Beverage
Food waste is turned into fertiliser and cooking oil into biodiesel.
Food is mainly served buffet-style and coffee machines used to minimise waste.
We strive to use locally sourced produce to reduce food miles.
Catering and cleaning chemicals are all non-red triangle/non-harmful to the environment.
Recycling Waste
We have a number of initiatives in place to minimise the use of single-use plastic and paper.
Unclaimed lost property is recycled where possible.
We try to upcycle furniture instead of replacing it.
