It’s fair to say that during this past year there have been lots of words that have established themselves in our everyday lexicon. Pre-2020 was anyone regularly talking about self-isolation, quarantining, furlough or being pinged?

One term that has become a mainstay of our industry jargon is ‘hybrid events’. Such multi-purpose meetings have actually been in our events armoury for some time, but during a year when face-to-face interaction became somewhat tricky, hybrid options have come into their own.

For many, hybrid offers ‘the best of both worlds’, marrying the versatility and ease of online with the personality and engagement of live - and it’s never been more popular. At Make Venues we’ve invested hugely in our hybrid capabilities, and take-up from our clients has been huge. In fact, in the space of just three months we hosted 600 video conference / hybrid events.

So, what’s all the fuss about and why is hybrid now so high on everyone’s agendas?

Well, everyone is now much better educated about the options available and the value they can add. By embracing digital access - particularly if it’s to an event that would have traditionally been face-to-face - you have the potential to extend your reach. It’s flexible enough to increase your numbers - often without limits nor deadlines - and with people who may not have wanted, or been able, to attend in person. Of course, there’s your environmental considerations too and online guests could be considered a much more sustainable option when you look at their carbon footprint.

And the joy of hybrid is that digital guests potentially cost very little to attend. No one needs to shell out for travel, or catering, or even a goody bag. Instead - provided the content is right and the attendee is engaged -  there is potential for a huge return.

There are, undoubtedly, many benefits to investing in hybrid, however, it will only reap rewards if you get it right. Online content provides new-found freedoms and engagement opportunities, but organisers need to ensure that they tailor their content for each audience - as what works face-to-face may well get lost in translation on screen.

Our STEM Video Conference and Hybrid Event Systems have been curated with all of these considerations in mind. We want to ensure that every customer - live or online - has a truly engaging and positive experience of our clients’ brand and their programme.

Hybrid is here to stay and we’re here to help make sure it’s done right.
